After graduating with a B.Com from University of Port Elizabeth, Sean Pashley joined the magazine industry as a sales executive and worked on a variety of magazine titles ranging from lifestyle & motoring to finance. He was roped into the murky world of editorial during this period and had a number of articles published. After 5 years, Sean migrated into the world of newspapers where he joined the behemoth that is the Sunday Times. As the Client Service Manager, he had dealings with some of the country’s most recognized brands and garnered a deeper appreciation of their perspectives on media and how they perceived its integration into marketing mix. With a decade of print and press experience under the belt, Sean moved out of the corporate environment and started a non-traditional media agency. Fresha Media represented a plethora of innovative media options which and, in some instances, planned media strategies for clients who were seeking an alternative means of addressing their consumers. One of the contracted relationships was with Starfish Mobile – one of the first mobile marketing agencies to ‘enter the fray’. After a couple of meetings with the founders, the proverbial light bulb went on as Sean cottoned on to the possibilities. He joined Starfish Mobile permanently in May of 2005 as a Sales & Marketing Manager and was subsequently promoted to Managing Director of the South African operations in early 2006. In late 2007, Sean was brought in as Chief Commercial Officer for Starfish's international operations.
